Power Density
Definition
Power delivery capability per unit mass (W/kg) or volume (W/L). Critical for applications requiring high acceleration or peak power.
Why It Matters
- Determines peak performance capability
- Limited by cell discharge capability and thermal management
- Often trades off with energy density
- Pack-level power density includes all system components
Common Pitfalls
- Not distinguishing between continuous and peak power density
- Ignoring thermal limits during peak power
- Quoting cell-level power density for pack-level application
- Not testing power density at minimum SOC and temperature
